We look inside the line before we say a word about the repair

When a sewer line backs up in a Union City home, guessing is the expensive route. A lot of the older houses we work on, especially through the Decoto area, still run their original sewer lateral, and that line is often clay or older cast iron that has been in the ground for decades. The fix for a single cracked joint and the fix for a run of corroded pipe are not the same job, so we have to know which one we are actually dealing with before we quote anything.
We start by sending a video camera down the lateral and locating the trouble spot from the surface. That tells us the pipe material, how far the damage sits from the cleanout, how deep it runs, and whether the slope is still draining the way it should. You watch the same screen we do, so the recommendation that follows is something you can see for yourself rather than take on faith.
